Project: Mercantile Residence Inn

Location: Missoula, MT

Year of Completion: 2019

Firm: JNS Architecture + Design

Role: Interior Design Lead (Public Spaces, F&B, Outdoor Amenities)

Summary: Reimagining the legacy of one of downtown Missoula’s most recognizable buildings, this adaptive reuse project preserved much of the historic pharmacy’s facade and original materials, while developing a compelling sense of contemporary relevance through our interior design concepts. Our approach at JNS involved both salvaging physical materials and collaborating with a local art consultant to help establish a distinct sense of place. From a gabion wall filled with reclaimed brick to an art installation from recycled books, historic artifacts and photography became conversation pieces throughout the public spaces, bringing new energy to a long-forgotten landmark.
